CARDIAC SURGERY OUTPATIENT UNIT
GENERAL INFORMATION
The cardiac surgery outpatient unit is open on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Patients are admitted for elective surgical treatment in the early morning hours.
Extraordinary and ordinary follow-up examinations of patients operated on at the cardiac surgery clinic are performed from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Follow-up examinations are scheduled electronically via the IHIS system.
Upon admission and follow-up examinations, it is necessary to bring all available documentation so that medical doctors could have an insight into the patient’s case history.

Referral letter for the examination by a cardiac surgeon or cardiologist
Referral letter for hospital treatment (if scheduled)
Documentation regarding the medical condition (discharge notes, the latest analyses, etc.)

OUTPATIENT UNIT WITHIN THE CENTER FOR CARDIAC INSUFFICIENCY
GENERAL INFORMATION
The first examinations of patients with heart failure, selection for certain modality of examination and treatment are performed in the outpatient unit of the Center for Cardiac Insufficiency, which also performs periodic monitoring of treated patients.
An examination in the outpatient unit within the Center is scheduled by your appointed medical doctor via IHIS system (IHIS referral letter with an appointment date and time).
REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION:
For the outpatient unit examination, patients should prepare the following analyzes, not older than 7 days:
- Complete blood count with leukocytes differential count
- Biochemical blood tests (electrolytes, kidney function, liver function, coagulation status)
- BNP or NT-proBNP

CARDIOLOGY OUTPATIENT UNIT
GENERAL INFORMATION
Doctors of the Department participate in the work of the triage cardiological clinic where patients are referred from primary health care centers as well as from other secondary and tertiary health care institutions. These patients are referred for possible further diagnostic cardiac examinations and intervention procedures. Also, the doctors of the Department participate in the pre-consular outpatient clinic, where the documentation is reviewed in detail and the condition of patients sent from other health institutions to the cardiac surgery council is assessed. Doctors of the Department participate daily in the work of the cardiac surgery council. Furthermore, they perform the first examinations after interventional procedures as well as examinations within specialized outpatient units (valvular diseases, cardiac insufficiency).

GENERAL INFORMATION
At the outpatient unit medical doctors from the Coronary Unit examine patients who have previously been treated for acute conditions in this organizational unit (after acute myocardial infarction). Furthermore, they perform the first examinations after interventional procedures as well as examinations within specialized outpatient units (valvular diseases, cardiac insufficiency).

GENERAL INFORMATION
The Department of Non-Invasive Cardiac Diagnostics includes the Outpatient Unit for Echocardiography and Functional Cardiac Diagnostics.
PROCEDURE FOR SCHEDULING OUTPATIENT UNIT EXAMINATIONS
Examinations within the Department of Non-Invasive Diagnostics can be performed if they are scheduled by means of electronic number via the IHIS system for that particular date, if they are scheduled internally, since a follow-up examination will be required within six months with a valid referral letter or without an appointment, in case of emergency patients, referred from the admission cardiac, cardiac surgery or vascular outpatient units.

ARRHYTHMOLOGY OUTPATIENT UNIT
GENERAL INFORMATION
- First examination for diagnostic purposes – Examination of patients with heart rhythm disorders, referred by the attending internist or cardiologist. Patients should have a Holter ECG, cardiac ultrasound and optimally ECG record of heart rhythm disorders or tachycardia. The specialist – electrophysiologist compiles a report and, if necessary, submits the documentation to the electrophysiological medical advisory board for review.
- Telemetric controls of pacemakers, defibrillators, loop recorders – Assessment of pacemaker or cardioverter defibrillator function, electrode operation, battery condition, device memory control.
- Analysis of 24-hour Holter ECG monitoring – Installation, removal of Holter monitor, analysis of ECG records and diagnosis of arrhythmia detected during Holter monitoring.
- The Electrophysiological medical advisory board makes a decision on the method of treating the patient and determines indications for interventional procedures: electrophysiological examination, catheter ablation, implantation of a pacemaker, cardioverter defibrillator or diagnostic loop recorder. The decision by the advisory board can be taken over by the patient at the main counter of the Institute.

POLYCLINIC FOR PREOPERATIVE PATIENT PREPARATIONS
GENERAL INFORMATION
REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION:
The following laboratory analyses must be provided in case of cardiac surgery:
CBS (Complete blood count) and ESR (erythrocyte sedimentation rate) – not older than 15 days
Biochemical blood tests (potassium, sodium, bilirubin, urea, creatinine, uric acid, glucose, ALT, AST, GGT, LDH, total protein, CRP) – not older than 15 days
Coagulation status (D-dimer, INR, bleeding time and fibrinogen) – not older than 15 days
Biochemical urine tests – not older than 15 days
T3, T4, TSH (valid for 3 months)
Blood type
If the patient is taking anticoagulant medicines such as Sintrom, Farin, Sincum, etc., it is mandatory to consult a doctor and stop taking them 5-7 days before the scheduled operation.
Chest radiography
Nasal and throat swab
If the patient is foreseen for surgical replacement of the aortic or mitral valve, it is required to submit a dentist’s certificate on the normal dental status.
If the patient suffers from some concomitant diseases, it is necessary to submit the opinion of the attending specialist who treats the patient with the consent to the surgical procedure.
Communicable diseases (HIV, HBV, HCV, syphilis) – not older than 6 months

ADMISSION OUTPATIENT UNIT – PREOPERATIVE PATIENT PREPARATION
GENERAL INFORMATION
The Admission outpatient unit employs medical specialists in internal medicine – cardiologists and nurses.
Examinations include:
examinations of patients scheduled for cardiac surgery procedures for a specific date
examinations of patients admitted as EMERGENCIES
Medical doctors – specialists also perform preoperative assessment of the readiness of patients waiting for scheduled heart surgery – as a part of pre-advisory board assessment work at the outpatient unit

GENERAL INFORMATION
Cardiac and internist evaluation of patients admitted for outpatient unit diagnostics (ultrasound and radiological non-invasive scan diagnostics) as part of preoperative evaluation and referral to a surgical vascular consultation.
Appointments for outpatient unit diagnostic procedures (angiology ultrasound, radiological diagnostics, scanners, etc.) are made through the IHIS system by specialists in general medicine or specialists in other specialty areas, for patients who need to be examined by a vascular surgeon.

GENERAL INFORMATION
The outpatient unit performs the admission, diagnostics and postoperative control of vascular patients. Surgeons perform basic clinical examination and assess the severity of the condition by reviewing relevant documentation. After the examination, surgeons make a decision on the further treatment method and discuss the date of the next follow-up examination or admission for possible hospital treatment with patients.

INTERVENTIONAL NEURORADIOLOGY OUTPATIENT UNIT
GENERAL INFORMATION
Interventional radiologists and neurologists work in the outpatient interventional neuroradiology outpatient unit which is a part of the Center for Vascular Diseases of the Brain.
The outpatient clinic performs:
- first diagnostic examinations
- postoperative follow-up examinations
- patient admission for hospital treatment
REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION:
For an outpatient unit examination, the selected primary care physician needs to:
- assign an adequate IHIS referral letter for specialist examination to the patient, specifying the time and date (referral letter for the interventional neuroradiology outpatient unit, ICVD “Dedinje” for the first and follow-up examinations)
For an outpatient unit examination, the patient needs to:
- bring previous documentation – CTA, MRI and MRA imaging or Doppler MAV recordings, as well as previous discharge notes and specialist medical doctor’s reports.

LABORATORY OUTPATIENT UNIT
GENERAL INFORMATION
The laboratory outpatient unit is open 24 hours a day.
Laboratory technicians perform biological material sampling.
SCHEDULING PROCEDURE
Blood sampling does not require making an appointment. The outpatient unit medical doctor gives an electronic referral letter thereby specifying required analyses and immediately sends the patient to the laboratory.
